    I hear you on the hakko 888D. I feel what had happen was a point in time it really was dominating compared to the older technology which most older folks were use to havibg to wait minutes before being able to solder. My first station I ever got was a cheap weller and bro I had to go make a coffee and a sandwich before it was ready to go. So the 888D was a massive upgrade for the time. Now of course since cartridge base stations took over the market they are ideal and much more convinient to use. The T12 were very popular before I upgraded to my aixun T3A. I choose it because i wanted to get into the C245 cartridges which are amazing and can pretty much run through anything with alot of power delivery. Only the 470 beats it because of the tough ground plains but its so versatile in the different cartridges you can use. Ever since then my 888 took the back seat and never gets powered on anymore but I keep it because its a old reliable work horse and in case of an emergency ive got a good backup. Tools I currently need to get are a bench power supply, proper fume extractor, oscilloscope, and I would love a good esr meter to test caps. Excellent talk about probes for the meter im running with probe masters they are really comfortable smooth and soft silicone. You should check them out. They are on par with pomona's and all the other good ones like flukes.

    I have a SNES 1chip that won't display or output anything, just a black screen. The sync signal is present, but no audio or video information is being output. Would you be able to fix an issue like this? I've tried everyrhing that I can without replacing the CPU itself, and I don't have the skills to do that. Is there a way that I could send it to you?

    • @PunkNDisorderlyGamer
      @PunkNDisorderlyGamer 3 дня назад

      @@Piggieyt75 it depends I’ve had consoles in the past that I couldn’t fix. 1 chip consoles often time display a black screen from a bad APU chip. Have you tried Mario kart, street fighter, or the burn in test cart? If you try Mario kart or street fighter you sometimes get a Nintendo logo and then it freezes, this helps track down the problem a bit. I don’t usually take in repairs, you got any pictures of your board. Maybe you have a broken trace on your board somewhere?

      @@BrainSlugs83 nah I haven’t checked the back too well. As for the multiout to HDMI I’m sure there exists a great option but I personally can’t recommend one as I’ve never tried any yet.

      @@PunkNDisorderlyGamer The RAD2X SNES version would probably work great on that!

    I found this video from a four-year-old comment you posted on Reddit. This series is incredibly satisfying to watch, though it also gives me some perspective on what I can realistically expect without your skills and equipment. Probably not gonna replace a bad CPU with a Radio Shack soldering iron and prayers.

      @@froobly yeah I used to post some comments promoting my videos, but I felt like it was kinda of a grift, so I stopped and let the growth be more organic. Glad you made it after all these years from that post. 👍 I got many more newer videos on SFC and SNES repairs, hope they can help.

    Would it be worth it to install a chip socket to make future installations/chip swaps easier?

    • @PunkNDisorderlyGamer
      @PunkNDisorderlyGamer 11 дней назад

      @@Retro_80s_Guy well it would be worth it to socket a test bench console to remove and test each chip individually without having to solder each chip through trial and error. But these QFP chip sockets are quite expensive.
